Waiting On Wednesday (#4)

Hey guys! It’s Waiting On Wednesday…being posted a little after Wednesday. 🙂 This meme is created and hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine. Waiting on Wednesday is a me to showcase a book (or books) that you can’t wait to (but are) read.

Waiting On Wednesday

I have two selections this week as usual. Both of them are just books I’ve recently discovered will be coming out.

RumbleRumble by Ellen Hopkins
Release Date: August 26, 2014
Published by Simon & Schuster
Genres: Young Adult
Amazon / Barnes and Noble / The Book Depository
Goodreads Summary:
Eighteen-year-old Matthew Turner doesn’t believe in much. Not in family—his is a shambles, after his brother’s suicide. Not in so-called friends who turn their backs when the going gets rough. Certainly not in some omnipotent master of heaven and earth, no matter what his girlfriend, Hayden, thinks. In fact, he’s sick of arguing with her about faith. Matt is a devout atheist, unafraid of some Judgment Day designed by decidedly human power brokers to keep the masses in check. He works hard, plays hard, and plans on checking out the same way. But a horrific accident—one of his own making—plunges Matt into a dark, silent place where the only thing he can hear is a rumble, and eventually, a voice. And what it says will call everything Matt has ever disbelieved into question.

Why I Can’t Wait:
I’ve never completed a whole Ellen Hopkins book, though I’ve wanted to, so this could be a first. I love how Ellen Hopkins writes about real teen issues in a way that doesn’t look down on their problems. I like the poetry free verse style that she uses a lot. I’m interested in seeing how Hopkins writes Matthew’s character and if there will be a positive or negative view of Christianity since I am a Christian. I’m also excited to read this because it sounds like Matthew will be going through a journey due to the accident.

Style: "Porcelain vivid"Damaged by Amy Reed
Release Date: October 14, 2014
Published by: Simon Pulse
Genres: Young Adult
Amazon / Barnes and Noble / The Book Depository
Goodreads Summary:
Part ghost story, part epic roadtrip, and part reluctant love story, DAMAGED offers readers another piercing, poignant story full of emotional truth from author Amy Reed.
After Kinsey’s best friend Camille dies in a car accident during which Kinsey was driving, Kinsey shuts down, deciding that numbness is far better than mourning. All she wants during the last few weeks of high school is to be left alone, but Camille’s mysterious boyfriend, Hunter–who was also in the car that night–has different ideas.

Despite all of Kinsey’s efforts, she can’t outrun Camille, who begins haunting her dreams. Sleep deprived and on the verge of losing it, Kinsey runs away with Hunter to San Francisco. As they drive across the country, trying to escape both the ghost of Camille and their own deep fears, Kinsey questions all she once believed about her friendship with Camille. Hunter, meanwhile, falls into a spiral of alcoholism, anger, and self-loathing. Ultimately, Kinsey and Hunter must come to terms with what they’ve lost and accept that they can’t outrun pain

Why I Can’t Wait:
As with Ellen Hopkins, I’ve never read a book by Amy Reed, although I’ve read parts of Crazy. She’s been on my TBR list of authors I need to read books by. when I heard about Damaged coming out I was so excited. I’m in a roadtrip kind of mood, so Damaged sounds fantastic to me. I like that it’s also part ghost story along with what seems to be some eventual romance. I’m excited to see Hunter’s journey through alcoholism as well as Kinsey dealing with Camille’s death.

If you can’t tell by now, I really like Young Adult novels where the characters end up going through hard times, how it affects them and whether or not things get better for them. I have a little while to go before Hopkins release though, unfortunately. I am really really excited to read these two books as soon as possible.

Those are my selections, what are yours? 🙂
