Monthly Recap: September ’15

~My Life~

It has been a very long and hard month for me. Mostly due to home circumstances.
Some of the highlights though?:
  • Seeing Three Days Grace for the third time. ❤ I went with a friend from college, her boyfriend and then their friend. I however, didn’t know it wasn’t just going to be us two until two hours before she got to my house. Ha. So a little headsup would have been nice, but it’s whatever. The concert was super good. Even with the new lead singer (</3). I was less than five feet from the barricade and then only two feet away towards the end of the concert. So that was really fun.
  • Going to the Friends of The Library book sale on the 18th. ❤ It was a bit complicated getting home, ha, which took away from the bit of the fun, but overall I had a nice time looking at all the books. 🙂 Oh and I was also over-charged, the same thing happened last year. 😦 But I still didn’t pay too much…I guess.
  • All the new music that came out! I’ll be talking about this down below but oh my gosh, it has been such a great music month.
  • I received my first unsolicited ARC (ever) from St. Martin’s Press! It was. . .

I had taken a picture of it after receiving it, but haha, I didn’t notice until after I uploaded it that I hadn’t shown the title. Lol.  It’s so pretty. It’s so, so pretty. Hopefully it’s good and I like it.

I finished Romancing The Dark In The City of Light, finally. That one took a while since I kept putting it off. I liked t though. I had a super good book month! Okay, so I only technically read four books and finished Romancing, but still! I really liked them all. My favorite? My favorite. . . *drum roll*

Sounds Like Me My Life So Far In Song

The non-fiction, memoir-esque, essay ridden book by Sara Bareilles! No, I’m not biased at ALL. JUST because I love her doesn’t mean that I was biased in my decision for picking this as my favorite book.

~Music Recap~

It was a month of cover albums, none of which I listened to, all of which, I need to. 🙂
  • Ryan Adams put his spin on Taylor Swift’s 1989. How great is that cover? It’s gorgeous. Okay, this is probably the only way I’ll ever hear Taylor Swift’s album without actually hearing her voice or buying it.
  • There was Bleachers’ album, Strange Desires, retitled Terrible Thrills vol. 2 featuring amazing female singers on all their songs. IT’S AMAZING. IT HAS SIA AND CARLY RAE JEPSEN AND TINASHE AND SARA BAREILLES AND CHARLI XCX AND ELLE KING AND JUST GO LISTEN TO IT. GO. IT’S ON SPOTIFY. RUN. It’s also available for FREE on Google Play if you are in the U.S. You will have to have a google account and some type of card to put on the account (I used a debit card). Oh gosh, that totally sound all infomercially, didn’t it? I didn’t mean to! Just listen to the album.
  • Natasha Khan of Bat For Lashes and the band Toy came together for an eclectic collection of songs from various countries.

Now for what I DID listen to. Here’s my Spotify playlist for September.

~What I Listened To~

  • What Are The Chances? by Duran Duran

  • Here’s To Mars by Coheed and Cambria
~Songs That Represented Me and My Month~
  • Restless by New Order
  • She Used To Be Mine by Sara Bareilles
  • Alive by Sia

  • New Order Music Complete
  • Chvrches Every Eye Open
  • Kaskade Automatic
  • Disclosure Caracal
  • Bleachers Terrible Thrills vol. 2
~Albums I Wish I Listened To A Bit More~
  • Low Ones and Zeroes (I streamed this when it was up on NPR the week of it’s release and was pretty into it, I bought it the day after it came out and never managed to listen to it really. :()
  • Stereophonics- I was crazy about this album, at least, the idea of the album. I love Stereophonics so I had to buy this album the day after it’s released (along with Low’s), but then I got caught up with a-ha’s album and…yeah. 😉

~Discovered Music~

Their album comes out on the 9th of this month and I’m so sad it will only be available in the UK for right now.  😦 I love this song. I also found these songs:
  1. Area Code by Nick Jonas
  2. Slow by Hurts
  3. Angel In The Dark by Black Tide
  4. Hangin’ by Bastille
  5. It’s That Talk Again by Broken Bells (Unreleased)
I finally clicked with Hallelujah by Panic! At The Disco. This amazingness by Panic! At The Disco came out as well. Finally, Panic! dropped Victorious, which I like. A lot. I’ll take that album now, Brendon. Just give me the album already! #IHateWaiting There IS going to be an album eventually, isn’t there? Sigh.

~What I’ve Been Watching~

I’ve been mostly just watching Friday Night Lights. I finally made it to the last season, so yayyy for that. I also found my DVD cord, well, my mom found it, so now I can resume watching Degrassi and Boy Meets World. Yay! I mean, I only really need the DVD cord for the first and fifth season of Degrassi and BMW, but you know, whatever. I’m glad to have it back!

So. . .As you can see, I have been music and book buying obsessed and just a little, tiny, kind of book reading obsessed (ha. . .) as well… It’s an addiction. Tell me how your month went, what happened, any new music you found, what you’re watching on tv, what you’re looking forward to this month, let me know. 🙂

Sorry to hear it was such a tough month, Amber. Hope October is much better for you. Very cool on the unsolicited ARC! Loved seeing the two Kristin Hannah books. She’s one of my favorites. Firefly Lane was the first I ever read by her and is still one of my favorites. Fly Away was darker but still so good. She is an amazing story teller. I had a couple issues with Faking Normal but overall I really liked that one. Such a trip to see you mention Duran Duran and Dave Gahan! OMG, I was immediately transported back to the 80’s. (That was totally my decade lol) My sister just bought me the new Duran cd for my birthday but I haven’t listened to it yet. And I only heard a few days ago that Dave Gahan was releasing a solo album. So cool! You give your age in your bio so it kind of floors me that you’re into Duran and Depeche and Joy Division, etc. That’s awesome. 🙂

    • Amber (YA Indulgences)

Thanks Tanya<3 I hope it's better too. It should be by the sheer number of music coming out. 🙂 Plus it's my birthday month, haha.

Yeah! I bought the Kristin Hannah books at the book sale and there was also Winter Garden, which I decided to put back at last minute. It's by sheer luck I bought both Firefly Lane and Fly Away as I forgot they were a duology. I figured I needed some more Adult Contemp. in my life. 🙂 I think I've actually read one KH book, but I'm not positive.

Haha, oh yeah, I'm kind of surprised it's not the 80s with Duran Duran, a-ha and New Order all releasing orders this year. Lol. I love it. I still haven't made my way through Duran Duran's new album, I really love Last Night In The City and What Are The Chances though.

Yeah, Dave's doing an album with Soulsavers, a producer duo. 🙂 I haven't heard too much of Depeche Mode's music, but I loved All Of This and Nothing that will be on Angles + Ghosts.

Haha, I went through a punk phase, then a new wave phase a few years ago and they've stuck so I was really excited for New Order and Duran Duran's albums. 🙂

  • Kaitlin @ Reading is My Treasure

The music I recognize the most from this post is the Halsey album. I got into her music last month and now I’m a bit obsessed with it!

I’m glad you really liked all five of those books. I still need to get to Violent Ends (it’s high priority on my TBR). I’m really excited for This is Where it Ends.

Yay, you got The Lifeboat Clique! I’m really hoping it’s as great as it looks. Same with those other Harper e-arcs. Why do they have to have so many great looking 2016 releases??

One last thing: I highly approve of your purchase of Faking Normal and Crown of Midnight. Those tied for my favorite book of 2015. 🙂

    • Amber (YA Indulgences)

Ooh, you need to listen to Hilary’s new album. And a-ha’s. And New Order’s. And basically everything I listed, ha.

Violent Ends was really good! It’s hard to decide which I preferred between it and This Is Where It Ends because they’re both written different ways and from different viewpoints.

Harper had a ridiculous number of great looking ARCs this winter.

Yay! I’ve seen Faking Normal talked highly about, so I had to pick it up. And CoM goes without saying (TOG + it was on sale). 🙂

  • vlangloisx3

CRAZY AMBER YOU ARE CRAZY. Especially with all the music, I literally cannot keep up. This is why I just listen to your playlists on Spotify. It’s easier that way hahahha.

Also no idea Sara Bareilles had a biography/memoir? That is pretty awesome. I’m glad you loved it so much ahhahahaha.

    • Amber (YA Indulgences)

I KNOWWW. I need to do a new feature just for the music. Listening to my playlists is good, plus they generally have songs mentioned from the albums I mention…

And yes she has a biography/memoir coming out! I liked it a lot. But I may be just a little biased. Tiny bit.
