December Recap of ’15

~My Life~

I can’t believe that not only is it the end of the month, it’s also the end of the YEAR. Time really just flies by when you get older, I think it’s because you’re more aware of it. My Christmas went well! I’m not doing anything for New Year’s clearly. 😉 I’m going to watch High School Musical though, I think, since Troy and Gabriella met on New Year’s Eve. ❤ My mom’s been wanting me to come downstairs for a bit, so, downstairs I will be. 🙂 I hope you all have an amazing new year and I hope you’ve had a good year this past year. ❤

Both of these books are really interesting. I have to say I think Firsts has the edge right now, just because it’s not as, um, confusing. Ha. I don’t have to really focus on it, in a hard way, to know what’s going on. I really love it. I’ll finish TLTSTW tomorrow.

~How Did I  Do With My Resolutions?~

~How Did I Do With My Challenges?~

I failed on every front. 😦 I really forgot about them all about halfway through and by September I just didn’t care due to slumps. 😦 I joined a lot of challenges and probably should have just joined a few, ha.

~New Music~

Here is my Spotify playlist for the month, it’s very short. Mostly because I only listened to Hamilton, so…

~Favorite Album~

This will surprise no one, but Hamilton! Before Hamilton it was Maria Mena’s Growing Pains.

~Album I Wish Had Gotten More Love~

Blue Neighbourhood Troye Sivan

I just don’t know what happened here, I was so obsessed with this album coming out and then it came out, but I was too sucked into listening to something else. 😦 Sad. I did listen to it a few times, but not as many as I thought I would.

~Musical News~

Hamilton will be settling down in Chicago for at least a year doing productions there! Then it will go on a national tour afterwards. Most likely. Yay!

~Fantastic Videos~

I thought this video was good, not the greatest, but fun.

DJ Earworm Mashup – United State of Pop 2015 (50 Shades of Pop)

Yes, I did mean to put an ad on here. I just really like this!

~My Addictions~

I know, none of you are surprised anymore.

~Music Purchases~

  1. Disclosure – Caracal (Deluxe)
  2. Grimes – Art Angels
  3. Beach House – Depression Cherry
  4. Beach House – Thank Your Lucky Stars
  5. 21 Pilots – Blurryface
  6. The Last Five Years (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
  7. Hamilton (Original Broadway Cast Recording)
  8. Saint Asonia – Saint Asonia
  9. Art of Dying – Rise Up

All of these albums were marked down, which was great. Half were 6.99, one was 7.99 (I think), 21 Pilots was 99 cents, I got The Last Five years half off, so 5.99 Hamilton was $1.99!

-Freebies From Google-

  1. Kelly Clarkson – Wrapped In Red Google Play Deluxe Edition
  2. Mariah Carey – Merry Christmas Google Play Exclusive Version
  3. Josh Groban – Noel
  4. Josh Groban – Stages

Yep, Kelly and Mariah were freeeee this past month. It was for a week or so, so that was nice. I listened to Kelly’s album as soon as I downloaded, but didn’t give it a listen much afterwards. 😉 As for Mariah, well, you know…Not much listen either. I decided to pick up Josh Groban because I heard he’s good, plus he does a cover of All I Ask Of You (from Phantom of The Opera) with Kelly on his album Stages.

~Movie/TV Purchases~

On Itunes:

Veronica Mars The OC

Both of these were (are?) only $4.99 on Itunes for the first season! So I of course had to buy VMars, so now I can have it on my ipod. Does anyone even use ipods anymore or is it all music from iPhones? Ha. I bought The O.C. because I’ve never seen it, once again, it will live on my ipod. So yay. Good digital buying month for sure.

~What I’ve Been Watching~

The 100 poster Jessica Jones

I watched all of The 100 in the span of 63 hours, yes, 63 hours. I mean, they’re not super long seasons, but still. As for Jessica Jones, I’m finishing that up now. I’m on the last episode and I have really liked it. I also really liked The 100 too. You can possibly expect posts on both shows next month (in four hours for me, officially). 🙂

So that is it for me. What have you read or watched or listen to or discovered this past month? How was your Christmas? Are you doing anything for New Year’s (hence why you won’t be commenting on this blog)? 😉

My Favorite Covers of 2015

Hi! I meant for this post to go up a bit sooner, but I suppose this is better than midnight! Ha. Anyway, judging by the title, I am going to be sharing some of my favorite covers of the year. Some is a bit of an understatement as there are at least 21! I’ll organize them into categories. 🙂

A Court of Thorn and Roses Queen of ShadowsWinter The Heart of Betrayal

Of course, despite not reading fantasy, I adore the covers. My favorites out of these four are Queen of Shadows and Heart of Betrayal because of how fierce the cover characters look. Especially in HoB, I adore that dress and the background is so mysterious and ugh, it’s so pretty. Winter wasn’t quite as awesome as I’d hoped it be (I think it has to do with the hand, really), but I still really love the font and the purple in it. ACOTAR was chosen because of how awesome the character looks.

Walk On Earth A Stranger Written In The StarsUnder A Painted Sky

I really love Walk On Earth A Stranger, it looks so mysterious and I love the gold font on it. Written In The Stars and Under A Painted Sky were both featured in past WCWs. 🙂 Written In The Stars is seriously gorgeous and I love the coloring in Under A Painted Sky.

~Super Pretty~

Magonia Made You Up

Yes, Super Pretty IS a category. Look how gorgeous they are! They’re so whimsical and I just love them so much!

~Simple Portrayals~

Because You'll Never Meet Me I'll Meet You There

P.S. I Still Love You I Was Here (Gayle Forman)

I felt like all four of these covers in a way, got across what their books were about. The first two involve ‘scenery’ of sorts where the stories take place and the second two involves characters. P.S. I Still Love You is a continuation to To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and I think the cover really shows the growth that the main character went through in the previous book. I’ve yet to read it though. 😦 In the new year (that’s what I tell myself about everything).

Despite not liking I Was Here and not loving the cover originally, it just really sticks out to me today. I like how it sort symbolizes, to me, the main character, Meg ‘walking away’ from life after commit suicide and Cody walking to find out why she did it. Of course, I mean a spiritual walking away of sorts.

~Couple Covers~

The Boy Most Likely To The Start of Me And YouThe Summer of Chasing Mermaids Hello Goodbye and Everything In Between

I couldn’t not do couple covers when there were so many that I loved this year. The funny thing is, I haven’t read any of these, despite owning almost all of them. Sigh. I love the sky focus in The Boy Most Likely To and The Start of Me and You. I love the diversity of The Summer of Chasing Mermaids by having a person of color on the cover. Finally, Hello Goodbye and Everything In Between just screams adorable to me. I’ve always been a fan of Jennifer E. Smith’s covers.

The Night We Said Yes

Okay, so yes, this book is on here because I adored it so much and also because I think it gets across the book’s basic element, a group of friends who say ‘yes’ on one night.

~Simple Covers~

All The Bright Places Every Last WordEmmy and Oliver Saint Anything

None of The Above Everything Everything

My Heart and Other Black Holes

I love the paper elements in ATBP and Every Last Word, I featured both of those in past WCWs. Emmy & Oliver is just so cute and simple that I adore it. I’m a fan of everything on that cover, the shades of blue, the fading out, the font, the heart, everything. I put Saint Everything next to it because they’re both dark blue and feature only one design/picture. I also featured the last three covers in a past WCW (the same one, in fact), except My Heart and Other Black Holes had it’s ARC cover for reasons. I love the chaotic-ness in MH&OBH, it really shows the struggling the main characters go through.

There were a lot of covers that I liked for various reasons. As you see, a lot of these I featured in past Wondrous Covers Wednesdays or plan to feature. I tried to put covers together based on their colors, in case you couldn’t tell. 🙂 What were some of your favorite covers of the year?

My Favorite Albums of ’15

Musical Monday is a feature where I talk about musicals, songs, make bookish playlists and feature authors to make bookish playlists for their own books.

YAY, MY FAVORITE TOPIC: MUSIC. This is my final music recap post for the year. Tonight I’m going to list and talk about my favorite albums of the year! I’ve also added Spotify links to almost all of them (coughs), so check those out! This list will be in NO particular order (though I did list my first favorite and my second favorite and I mention what my third favorite is, as well as one that’s in my top five, but other than THAT), no order. Let’s get started!

Fave Albums

Carly Rae Jepsen – Emotion

Carly Rae Jepsen EmotionYes, okay, when I heard Call Me Maybe, I was like “Who is this girl? What is this song? I wish it’d go away.” as I’m sure a lot of you did as well. 😉 Well let me just be the first to say, I’M SORRY, CARLY, PLEASE FORGIVE ME. Do NOT let that one song put you off of this album or her debut (which is amazing) for that matter. One song does not represent an artist. Say it with me: One song does not represent an artist. Okay, good. This album is just super relatable and popish and I adore it so, so much. Listen to it and get your life.

Favorite Songs: Let’s Get Lost, Making The Most of The Night, Boy Problems, I Didn’t Just Come Here To Dance and Favorite Colour.

Hilary Duff – Breathe In. Breathe Out.

Breathe In Breathe Out Hilary Duff

I know. You’re all super surprised to see this album on the list. I’m sure my previous post totally dedicated to this album gave no clues that it was a favorite. This was one of my biggest surprises of the year. I don’t know what I was expecting from Hilary, but this was amazing. The first half is an upbeat pop sound then the second half is more laid back and folkish. The song Tattoo reminds me a ridiculous amount of Lyla and Riggins from Friday Night Lights.

Favorite Songs: Confetti, Breathe In Breathe Out, More Than A Memory and Tattoo.

Marianas Trench – Astoria

Astoria Big Cover

Ah, one Canadian band that did not let me down this year. This album was astounding. It was inspired by The Goonies and is a soundtrack of sorts for the movie. It’s kinda genius really. It really has a movie feeling to it with it’s sweeping soundscapes it has. It’s very concept album-ish, which I adore.

Favorite Songs: Astoria, Yesterday, and Wildfire.

Grimes – Art Angels

Art Angels Grimes

When I heard Grimes had a new album coming out, I sort of set it aside in the back of my mind. I remember vaguely of her former albums and didn’t think anything new would be done. So you can imagine my shock when this album came out and reached the top three for my favorite albums of the year. Grimes combines electronica with video games and manga/anime inspiration. It’s amazing. There’s also a song criticizing record labels, which is always good stuff, called California. That took some getting used to, but I now really like it. It’s a pop album through and through. One of the best this year.

Favorite Songs: laughing and not being normal, World Princess Part II, and Life In The Vivid Dream.

Troye Sivan – Blue Neighbourhood

Blue Neighbourhood Troye Sivan

I loved Troye’s previous EP, Wild, which the first six songs from Blue Neighbourhood are taken from. An on-going theme in the album is this person dealing with his feelings for his boyfriend. I think it’s really interesting in how openly gay the writing for the album is. I mean, it does go either way, but as Troye is gay, it’s refreshing to see that ‘showcase’ (for lack of better term) in a full album. One of the small problems with the album is that a lot of the songs are mellow and have very similar sounding, but other than that, it’s great.

Favorite Songs: Talk Me Down, Fools, and Youth.

Disclosure Caracal

I’ll admit that I have to be in a certain mood to listen to this album, but that’s because it’s not in one of my usual genres of choice. It’s dance/electronic music. It features The Weeknd, Sam Smith, Lorde, and others.

Favorite Song: Magnets

Beach House – Depression Cherry

Beach House Depression Cherry

This is such a pretty album. I love how mellow it is. Dare I say? I think it’d be perfect on Gilmore Girls, maybe for the four new movies they’ll be making? 🙂

Favorite Songs: PPP, Beyond Love, and Space Song.

Adele 25

Adele 25

Unfortunately, this album isn’t available streaming anywhere online. 😦 I never really listened to Adele’s first two albums, though I own both (somewhere…). When I heard she was coming out with a new album though, of course I had to give it a listen. Give My Love (To Your New Lover) took a few plays to get used to since it’s such a different sound from her ballads. It’s very Taylor Swift-ish with the snakiness, in my opinion.

Favorite Songs: When We Were Young, All I Ask, and Million Years Ago.

Alessia Cara Know-It-All

Alessia Cara Know It All

This album caught me by surprise. I went and bought this on a limb after finding it had been released a week earlier than I’d thought. This is Alessia’s debut album, previously she had an EP called Four Pink Walls, which I never heard. It’s a very youthful album, much like Troye’s in term of subject matter, there’s a lot of high school subject in it, which I like.

Favorite Songs: Seventeen, River Of Tears, and Scars To Your Beautiful

Melanie Martinez Cry Baby

Melanie Martinez Cry Baby

Another concept album! I adore this album, it reminds me of Marina and The Diamond’s Electra Heart. It also makes me think of Emilie Autumn in terms of the songwriting and titles (Training Wheels, Tag You’re It, etc.), they’re all very kid-ish.This concept album revolves around a girl dealing with her family who looks perfect on the outside. It deals with other topics such as love, sexual assault, plastic surgery, etc. It’s really interesting.

Favorite Songs: Dollhouse, Sippy Cup, Soap, and Pity Party.

Maria Mena Growing Pains

Maria Mena Growing Pains

One of my new favorite singer/songwriters. This is a great album. It’s really cohesive throughout the entire thing and some songs are a bit similar melodically, but I think that’s okay. Maria had wrote this song as she was going through a hard divorce and it just really shows that in the album. Even if I hadn’t read about her going through the divorce, I would be able to tell this was real life inspired. The album goes from being upset about her choices to eventually coming full circle and knowing it was the right decision. It’s beautiful.

Favorite Songs: I Don’t Wanna See You With Her, Not Sober, and Where I Come From.

a-ha Cast In Steel

The only reason I ever gave this album a chance was because I was intrigued at this 80s band (that I never previously listened to) was making an album in 2015. I heard an album sample on and that sealed the deal for me. I bought it on it’s release date, listened to it and fell in love. This is a lovely album and has gotten me through quite a bit. I love how mellow it is.

Favorite Songs: Cast In Steel, Living At The End of The World and She’s Humming A Tune.

Chvrches Every Open Eye

Chvrches Every Eye Open

This is such an upbeat album, I had it on replay for several days. It’s in the top five of my favorite albums. I loved all three of the singles they put out for it,  Leave A Trace, Never Ending Circles and Clearest Blue.

Favorite Songs: Never Ending Circles, Keep You On My Side, Afterglow and Make Them Gold.

Smallpools Lovetap!

Smallpools Lovetap

I have loved these guys since I first heard their song “Dreaming” in The Vampire Diaries. Their album was one of my most anticipated of the year. I fell in love with their song Karaoke immediately. That song got a lot of play out of me, but I had the album on repeat a lot.

Favorite Songs: Dreaming, Killer Whales, and Karaoke.

Marina and The Diamonds Froot

Marina and The Diamonds Froot

Since Marina’s last album was a concept album, it was interesting to hear her have just an album of ‘regular’ songs. I could relate to a lot of the songs on this album. It was a lot more “quiet” with it’s meanings and in terms of sound, which I really loved. I don’t like it more than Electra Heart though, but it’s still really good.

Favorite Songs: Happy, Forget and I’m A Ruin.

Breaking Benjamin Dark Before Dawn

Breaking Benjamin Dark Before Dawn

Of course they made my list. A bit late though, ha. Anyway, I fell in love with “Failure” immediately, as well as “Angels Fall”, their final single, “Defeated” took some getting used to though. The first song on the album is more of intro and the last song is an intro. It was interesting to go into this album having already heard the first (Dark) and last (Dawn) “real” songs on the album (Failure and Defeated). I would have liked to not have the songs placed that way, but they make sense. I didn’t immediately like this album a lot, so it took some growing, but now it’s clearly one of my favorites. This album brought me straight back to high school, it was insane. Their sound is very much the same as their previous albums (which I highly recommend) and while that would turn some people off, I loved it. It’s such a nice album.

Favorite Songs: Failure, Breaking The Silence, Close To Heaven, and Never Again.

Allie X CollXtion 1 EP

Allie X CollXtion 1

I discovered Allie X pretty recently due to random browsing on This is actually just an EP, but it is really good.  Dare I say her sound and album kind of remind me of Madonna? Quite a bit really. I think it’s the song style, it reminds me of Madonna’s album Ray of Light. She is due to have CollXtion 2 out next year, which I am really excited for.

Favorite Song: Never Enough

Hailee Steinfeld Haiz EP

Hailee Steinfeld Haiz

How gorgeous is that album cover? I am seriously just so in love with it. It really fits the mood of Carly Rae Jepsen’s album, actually. I wish Hailee would take up a more night time club vibe (don’t let that scare you) in her debut album, which I think is to come out in the new year? Crossing fingers.

Favorite Song: Hell No’s and Headphones

Favorite Songs: ALL OF THEM. I mean, did you expect another answer? 😉

I had to add this album, of course. It’d be horrible if I didn’t, especially since it’s overtaken all my other musical listening to. . .

So, what do you think? Have you listened to any of these albums? If you haven’t, you absolutely must, especially Carly’s, Hilary’s, Grimes’ and HAMILTON. Hamilton is a MUST. It’s actually an order. 😉 What albums have you really liked this year? Did any of them make my list?

Weekly Recap (#39) + Stacking The Shelves (#29)

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a lovely Christmas, if you celebrate it. If you don’t celebrate it, then I hope you had a good day either way. 🙂

Christmas went well here! I didn’t get any books for Christmas, but I did get luggage and clothes for BEA. I received some money on Visa, which I promptly spent on…books! Yay, books. It all leads back to books in the end. 😉 So my parents are really trying to shove me out the door already, haha.

Besides that, I got some other things, including a phone, which is good. Once again, for BEA purposes mostly, I’m not a phone person at all. Well, calling wise.

There was no snow here for Christmas, but now, of course, my state’s in a winter storm watch until tomorrow afternoon so that’s fun. I hope we don’t lose power or anything, we usually don’t, but you never know.

I can’t believe it’s almost the end of the year, it feels like this year just flew by, it’s crazy. Due to that, I will be doing a lot of year end posts such as Jamie’s yearly recap, my regular yearly recap (I may combine the two), my favorite covers of the year and my favorite albums of the year. So this week will actually be pretty full, which hasn’t happened in a while for me. 🙂

~This Week I Posted~

I shared an awesome playlist of my favorite songs and highlighted songs in the post itself. Check that out for sure!

I shared the top ten books I would love to receive for Christmas. Spoiler Alert: Alexander Hamilton made the list. ;D

I swore Winter was coming in my Wondrous Covers Wednesday post. It appears it finally is, it was freezing today!

~My ‘Reading’ Life~

Once again, I have been just LAGGING on the reading. I blame it on Netflix and Hamilton. I don’t know how to say no to them.

My goal for the rest of the year though is to just finish Gena/Finn and The Love That Split The World. I can do it, I can do it. I think.

So if you see me on Twitter, nudge me and say “So Amber, how’s that book you’ve been reading?”, this will remind me that as a book blogger, it’s sometimes good to READ. 😉

~Stacking The Shelves~

Stacking The Shelves

I also received some books this week! Which was fun. As well as a correction to a book I received last week, haha.

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme created and hosted at Tynga’s Reviews. Bloggers are invited to link up and share the books they received over the past week.

There’s soap and socks there too! Both in which, I love.

Yes, Tease again! Very glare-ful. Last week I said I received this from my Secret Sister which was totally wrong and created a ton of confusion. I actually received this great looking book from my Secret Santa, Val!

You see, I just figured it was from my Secret Sister because I was so used to receiving packages every month that I completely quit checking the addresses, hahaha. I also read her lovely card incorrectly (Sorry Val<3). So yes, that book was from Val and not Secret Sis.

Here’s a close up of the Sailor Moon figure (Is it not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen!?) and Anna! She’s in her post-Elsa striking phase. There’s also the awesome unicorn card. You know how I love unicorns, they’re totally real.

Kaitlin offered me an ARC of Underwater and let me choose a couple other books from a selection of hers! Thank you so much, Kaitlin. ❤ Here was what I chose:

Underwater / Not If I See You FirstOf Beast and Beauty

I’ve heard good things about all three books, so I’m excited to get around to reading them. Of Beast and Beauty will count towards the backlist challenge I’m participating in.

So, is anyone doing anything for New Year’s Eve? I’m pretty sure I won’t be doing anything except cowering in my room due to the numerous fireworks that will undoubtedly go off, haha. Let me know how your week’s been or if you received any cool books for Christmas!

Winter Is Coming (Wondrous Covers Wednesday)

Right? Winter can’t just NOT come. Oh my gosh, guys, we’re basically living in Game of Thrones where everyone talks about winter and claims winter exists but you really don’t see it until three thousand years later after people first talk about it.

I figured I would do wintery covers tonight! Why? Because supposedly the season we’re in…is in fact winter. Unless you live on the other side of the planet, in which case, well it’s not winter.

Winter Town  Chasing Brooklyn Revise   The Lovely Bones

Lovely Dark and Deep   The Tragedy Paper If I Stay

I love it, they’re all so gloomy and dark and…wintery. I like how a lot of them incorporate reflections and woods, they really give off a melancholy feeling. Out of the seven of these, I’ve read If I Stay and Wintergirls. I really loved If I Stay (which is an understatement) and did enjoy Wintergirls, even though that one was on the darker side.

What are some of your favorite wintery covers? Have you read any of these books? Do their covers suit them?

If I Were To Receive Books. . .

Hi! Once again (though it’s been a while), I have a post that will be on here when you all wake up! Unless you’re totally still awake like I am, in which case, it will still be up later.

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme done by those at The Broke and the Bookish. Every week there’s a new list, so if you’d like to check that out, you can go here.

I never get books for Christmas, my parents don’t buy them for me since I already own so many (that I bought myself). 🙂

I said this last year too, but a little redundancy sometimes is good. 😉 Plus it gives people hints. Just kiddinggg:

If Santa were to bring me some books though, these are the ones I would like, I decided to only mention ones that I haven’t read that were published this year.

~Top Ten Books I Really Really Really Want Santa to Bring Me For Christmas~

For The Record The Anatomical Shape Of A Heart The Fixer The Accident Season The Weight of Feathers

The Lies About Truth Not After Everything Winter Until We Meet Again Uprooted

  1. For The Record -I’m seriously into almost any book that has to do with music and oh my gosh, that cover. I love it.
  2. The Anatomical Shape of The Heart – Ugh, I need this one. Two people meet on a bus in the middle of the night? I crave it.
  3. The Fixer – Holly said she thought I would like this and I think I would too and I just really want it. Plus the author and I have the same last name. Maybe I could pretend I’m a relative and hit her up for a copy?
  4. The Accident Season – This book is intriguing. I love mysterious family backgrounds.
  5. The Weight of Feathers – I just really like the cover of this. It’s so unique too, since it’s about traveling circuses. I mean, how often do you come across traveling circuses in literature? And I mean, a FAMILY of traveling circuses. A RIVALRY between FAMILIES of TRAVELING CIRCUS PEOPLE. It’s unheard of!
  6. The Lies About Truth – I read Faking Normal by Courtney and I loved that book, so I’m pretty much up for whatever she writes next.
  7. Not After Everything – This is a title that I have just been super excited about since I heard of it. I like more ‘dysfunctional’ backgrounds when it comes to guy main characters? Oh gosh, that sounds horrible, moving on.
  8. Winter – Winter needs no introduction. I have still, um, only read Cinder, however, that’s because I don’t own Fairest yet (actually, it’s not why but go with it) and I’d want to series binge them.
  9. Until We Meet Again – Really, I love the super gorgeous cover. It’s like a YA The Time Traveler’s Wife, which I mostly loved, so I would hope I’d love this book as well.
  10. Uprooted – Ha, remember that time I ALMOST got an ARC of this one? Then the book blew up. Remember? Do you remember? I remember. “Let it go, Amber”. Never. I figured my list could use a little (more) fantasy in it. 🙂

While we’re adding fantasy, I might as well add some educational value to my list. 😉

Alexander Hamilton

Alexander Hamilton, we are waiting in the wings for you.

You saw that coming, right? Oh. Maybe not. Since I said I was only doing ’15 releases. Oh well! The ship is in the harbor now.

Were any of these books on your list this week? Have you read any of them? Did you love them? Tell me you loved them, at least tell me you didn’t hate them. Do you love Hamilton? Okay, I’ll stop.

(Most of) My Favorite Songs of ’15

Musical Monday is a feature where I talk about musicals, songs, make bookish playlists and feature authors to make bookish playlists for their own books.

Hi everyone! Oh my gosh, I’m so excited, I get to talk about my favorite thing in the world, music. Okay, I lied, it’s not exactly my ‘favorite’ thing in the world, okay, nevermind, it is! I love music. I love books too. And God, but God’s not a thing so, music it is! Tonight I am going to be talking somewhat about (or maybe mostly listing) my favorite songs. I will try to keep this to the sensible number of 25, we’ll see how well I do.

All of the songs will only be ’15 songs, so nothing before this year (or after. Ha ha ha. No? Okay).

I will be (mostly…) restricting myself to *waits for it*  one song per artist.

There’s no telling how many songs will be in the playlist, it will be at least 21 (because that’s how many I have down in a text document) and the max will be anywhere from 50 to 100. You’re welcome.

This is actually going to be a really short post because I now don’t feel like talking much, ha, I will a little though.

I’m actually not going to list the songs here, aside from my ‘favorite’ favorites. For the full playlist, you can go here. 🙂 There will be a mix of pop, rock and alternative. I’ll give Youtube links for the songs below.

~My Top Five Favorite Songs (or what I like to call, Life Savers)~

She’s Humming A Tune by a-ha

And I don’t suppose she knows

everything that’s bound to happen,

how and where the story goes,

and I don’t why I care.

She’s up tight, not right,

how could it matter to me?

This song was all kinds of perfection when I heard it. An immediate favorite of the year in September. I seriously never listened to this band aside from Take On Me, ha. I’ll be looking into the backlist now, of course.

She Used To Be Mine by Sara Bareilles

It’s not easy to know
I’m not anything like I used to be
Although it’s true
I was never attention’s sweet center
I still remember that girl

She’s imperfect but she tries
She is good but she lies
She is hard on herself
She is broken and won’t ask for help
She is messy but she’s kind
She is lonely most of the time
She is all of this mixed up
And baked in a beautiful pie
She is gone but she used to be mine

Once again Sara Bareilles gets all my feelings down in a way I never could. I love how well this song works without the musical background of the album. If you took out the pie references, it’d be another ‘regular’ song. 😉

Talk Me Down by Troye Sivan

So if you don’t mind, I’ll walk that line
stuck on the bridge between us,
grey areas and expectations,
but I’m not the one if we’re honest.
But I wanna sleep next to you,
and I wanna come home to you,
I wanna hold hands with you,
I wanna be close to you.

This is such a sad song, I love it so much.

River of Tears by Alessia Cara

Go ‘head and wish me well,
I’ll cry a wishing well,
I’ll fly before I fail,
I’ll set sail and drift away,
so I won’t need you here.
Love sinks and hope floats
In a river of tears

This song reminds me of Love The Way You Lie by Sky Ferreira (which was officially recorded by Rihanna but I love Skye’s version).

Never Gonna Let Go by Shinedown

Caught in the act of flying solo,

this acrobat is lost
and I don’t know
where I’ll land.
As I reach for your hand,

all of the lights can be so blinding
every time I jump you always find me
without a net.
So please don’t forget
’cause right now I’m out of control,

swear you’re never gonna let go

This song was finally put on the latest album, thank God. I’d been replaying the live version for a while and couldn’t wait to hear a studio version. It’s amazing, but it’s also not on Spotify unfortunately. 😦

Failure by Breaking Benjamin

Tired of feeling lost, tired of letting go.

Tear the whole world down, tear the whole world down.

Tired of wasted breath, tired of nothing left.

Tear the whole world down, tear the whole world down.

Talk about your flashbacks. Ugh, feels. When I first heard Breaking Benjamin was going to have a new album out, I was in shock. Breaking Benjamin had broken up (I guess that’s the term) years ago and came back renewed with the lead singer, Benjamin and a new lineup. This was the perfect song to be the first single.

If I said I found them super relatable, that’d be really cliche, right? Either way, I did and they definitely helped days pass by easier, especially She’s Humming A Tune and Never Gonna Let Go.

What were some of your favorite songs of the year? Have you heard any of these songs? Were there any others by the artists that you liked more/better than the ones I listed?
